What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium funding is additional money for schools that is used to address any underlying inequalities experienced by eligible children. Pupil Premium is clearly identifiable and it is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent.
The Pupil Premium is paid by means of a specific grant, based on annual school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for FSM from Nursery age onwards. Looked after children also have an entitlement to a premium and a premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. This service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of these pupils.
At Alvaston Infant and Nursery School, Pupil Premium pupils are identified at the start of each financial year and interventions are planned to support those pupils in the best way possible depending upon their needs which are assessed using a range of data information.
BARRIERS TO LEARNING:
Some of the key barriers we face when supporting our Disadvantaged pupils are:
Low attendance; if children are not in school they will not learn and make progress.
Poor Speech and language which impacts pupils’ friendships, reading and writing.
Little or no support from some parents resulting in poor achievement due to not reading or completing homework.
The above results in children coming in to school significantly below age-related expectations. Our aim is to use the funding to raise outcomes for these pupils and to be relentless in our drive to overcome these barriers

Our Statement
“The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for pupils. The funding will be used to diminish te differences between the achievement of these pupils and their peers. As far as its powers allow, the school will use the additional funding to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible for Pupils Premium and others. We will ensure that the additional funding reaches the pupils who need it most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives by directly addressing their barriers to learning.”
