Home Learning
Our teaching staff are working hard to ensure that we can provide a closely-matched learning entitlement for the children at both home and school, and therefore, the Home Learning material will reflect what is taking place in the classrooms for those children who have been able to remain in school. We are fully aware that we cannot compensate for face-to- face classroom teaching, however, our staff will all be on-hand to assist you as much as possible and will be checking in with every family, weekly, to ensure that you feel fully supported.
We would welcome any comments and feedback to help us provide a programme which supports our children in the best way possible. As we have said before, the children’s health and well-being is of paramount importance and so is your own! Please spend an appropriate amount of time on activities to suit your child and family’s circumstances. We are aware that parents will also have to work at home and therefore will be ‘balancing’ home and work commitments. We do not intend to put any unnecessary pressure on yourselves or your children so please do your best to support your child.
This term, we will be focussing upon the recognising numbers 11 to 20 continuing to deepening our understanding, counting forwards and backwards and counting objects to match a number. Recognising the number that is one more/less than a given number. Please use Purple Mash or Topmarks for counting activities - links below.
This term we will be learning the following sounds (phonemes) in phase 3 including j, v, w, x, y , z. Each week the new phonemes will we put on Dojo. We will be learning the corresponding written letter combinations (graphemes). Can your child read and write words containing these phonemes/graphemes? Words containing: j (jog), v (vet), w (went), x (next), y (yak ), z (zip).
To extend your child, encourage them to think of words containing these letters.
This term, we will be continuing to teach the children the correct letter formation – see school website for letter formation rhymes. We will also be exploring Winter and the changes that happen during this season. Please use Purple Mash for Reception ‘2Dos’, which are linked to Winter and the changes.
This half term our big question will be ‘What makes a good story?’ We will be reading stories by the author Julia Donaldson, including Stickman and The Gruffalo but to name a couple.
In our writing this term, we will be focussing on: rhyming words and creating our own rhyming string e.g. dog, log, frog and hog.
We will also be looking for correct letter formation, please click on the button below to help with this.
Reading
Currently, as a school, reading is a high priority, and we would encourage you to use this time to read as frequently with your child at home as possible. Reading unlocks success to the whole of the curriculum and is an important ‘life- skill’, which should be nurtured and developed whilst promoting enjoyment. Please spend time sharing books with your child, talk about book, who are the main characters, where is the story set and can you child predict what might happen? Remember, if you read with your child record this and we can add it to the Reading Rainbow Challenge. This term we are learning phase 3 tricky words including: me, we, he , she, be, my, they, are, all, was, you & her.If you would like additional reading book support, please access the Oxford Owl online reading scheme.
Science
Don’t forget to stay active if you can. If you have a garden, maybe you could get an adult to give you some challenges! Click on the button above for more ideas. For example:
How many star jumps or laps around the garden can you do?
Can you hop on one leg?
Can you run quickly on the spot for 30 seconds?
Could you go for a winter walk, build a snowman if it snows?
Topic Work
In Reception, we explore the changes in the world around us. This term we are thinking about winter and there are some great activities you can use on the Purple Mash website for Reception ‘2Dos’, , where you will find activities linked this topic and closely matched to the work covered in class this term. . As part of our cross-curricular approach, your child will also be able to carry out some additional writing activities, linked to the seasons and winter.
Can you draw your own winter picture? Remember that the trees have no leaves! Have a look outside, what colour is the sky?
