How will you source more specialist help for my child, if they need it?

In our school if we feel a pupil needs more specialist help we can work with the following people to get this.

Educational Psychology Service (EPS)

Who they work with: Children with complex needs. An Educational Psychologist will always be involved with a child or young person who is referred for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

How school can get in touch with them:
The SENCO or Deputy SENCO will contact after a parent or carer signs a referral form.

Speech and Language Therapy Service (SALT)

Who they work with: Children with a high level speech and language difficulties.

How school can get in touch with them:
Following a discussion with our therapist, school will fill in a form which parents or carers sign.

Community Paediatrician

Who they work with: Community paediatricians are doctors experienced in child health, who see children and their families outside of hospital. They can be referred to, to assess a child’s needs.

How school can get in touch with them: School can make a referral through the Single Point of Access (SPOA). Parents will be asked to complete a questionnaire and a Vanderbilt Assessment form

School Nurse

Who they work with: Children with medical needs

How school can get in touch with them: School can fill in a form which parents or carers sign

Hearing Impairment Team

Who they work with:
The team provides support for children with a hearing impairment. They offer a range of services including:

  • Providing information advice, support and guidance to parents, families, carers and teachers of babies, children and young people with hearing impairment

  • Individual tuition

  • In-class advice and support for CYP, teachers, teaching assistants and support workers

  • Audiological assessment

  • Language assessments

  • Training for staff in deaf awareness and specifically to enable them to support a named child

Vision Impairment Team

Who they work with:
The team provides support for children with a vision impairment. They offer a range of services including:

  • Home visits

  • Support with play and development

  • Advice on toys and equipment

  • Sensory room sessions

  • Support with the transition into a child’s first school place and then on-going

  • Support and advice for children, teachers, teaching assistants and support workers in the school environment including reading and writing materials, seating positions, mobility and classroom resources.

The Light House

Who they work with: The Light House is a purpose built environment for disabled children and the staff who work with them. The IDCS is jointly funded by us and NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG. Services available from the Light House:

  • Community and home support

  • Residential short breaks

  • Community short breaks

  • Social workers

  • Children's practitioners

  • Occupational therapists

How school can get in touch with them: School make a referral through an Early Help Assessment (EHA). Any referral must provide evidence of diagnoses by including at least one of the following:

  • Psychiatric report

  • Psychologist report

  • Letter from a paediatrician

  • Ccompleted Education Health Care Plan
