Anchoring Learning
across the Curriculum
We are always working to help our children secure long-term knowledge and to make learning STICK.
To do this across our curriculum, every classroom will have:
Planned and purposeful ‘Revisitation Weeks’
A published Learning Journey for each topic, so that children have a chance to reflect on their learning, revisit the topic(s) and explore the book(s).
A visual timetable, that displays key events and dates linked to significant people, to develop the childrens’ understanding of chronology. This will be built upon each year.
A weather chart to observe and discuss daily/seasonal weather patterns and changes.
A UK map and map of the world, relating to geographical knowledge taught within the year group. Built upon year by year. This will also include age-appropriate atlases and globes.
A ‘Working Wall’ documenting key vocabulary, subject-specific and transferred to the Learning Journey as appropiate.
A ‘Curious Culture’ section in the class reading area, this will include images, artefacts and texts. All of these will promote talking, discussion and celebrate diversity.
A range of resources that children can access independently to help and support them with their learning.
Timetabled, weekly opportunities for children to reflect and revisit earlier learning.
