Local Authority Finance Governor
Would you like to be a Governor at Alvaston Infant and Nursery school?
We currently have a vacancy for a Local Authority Finance Governor and are looking for a strong candiate, with financial knowledge and experience and an understanding of school financial systems.
Governor Committments:
The Local Authority Governor will be expected to attend at 6 full meetings of the School Governing Body each year. There are two committees, Finance, Premises and Personnel and Curriculum and Pupils. The committees meet once a term. Unless in exceptional circumstances, these meetings are on a Thursday.
Governors are required to take an active interest in the school and the children. As a Local Authority Governor you are ‘critical friend’ monitoring the school progress and ensuring the school maintains a healthy budget.
As a governor you would help strategically manage the school, offering your support and knowledge to the governing body and senior leadership team.
We are a hard working, warm and enthusiastic team, working together to make Alvaston Infant and Nursery School the best it it can be.
The term of office is 3 years. Governors may resign at any time during this term.
Governors will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service Check and will be required to complete a Disqualification by Association and Pecuniary Information form.
Supporting our Governors:
There is a varied training program for governors including new governor inductions and ongoing update training – these are run by Derby City Council and generally are available in the day and evening. We encourage all governors to attend courses they find of interest and that assist the running of the Governing Body.
Exemptions:
You cannot become a Local Authority Governor if:
you are an elected member of the Local Council
you work at the school for more than 500 hours in a school year
you are bankrupt
you are disqualified from working with children
We look forward to receiving your application. Please email our eholmes@alvastoni.derby.sch.uk with a short letter giving details of your experience and why you would like to be a governor. Closing date for applications is Friday 8th January at 12noon.
Yours sincerely
